DSVN (Duong Sat Viet Nam) runs an extensive system across the country with the most important route linking Hanoi with Ho-Chi-Minh (Saigon) some 1725km to the south. Various other lines head out of Hanoi to Haiphong (100km), two lines run to the Chinese border, northwest to Lao-Cai and northeast to Dong Dang. Another line runs to the tourist town of Halong (for the Halong Bay protected area). These lines have a mix of gauges with 1000mm Narrow Gauge and 1435mm Standard Gauge. Some places and depots are dual gauged. Railway enthusiasm is not really a concept that has yet been grasped in Vietnam and photography is rarely welcomed Class 19E - 2035 (re-gauged to standard gauge) standing at Yen Vien shed on December 20, 2008 with the narrow gauge track visible in front of the loco Return to the Vietnam Gallery Index page
