The S Class locomotives date from between 1957 and 1961.

West Coast Railways operates S302 and S311 on passenger services between Melbourne and Warrnambool, whilst S300 is currently in the sheds at Ballarat.

S301, S306, S307 and S310 were all observed in service with Freight Australia as slave locos - their cabs are not considered to be in a good enough state for being lead locos. They are all in tatty old style V/Line livery with stencilled side numbers.
