Montzen Yard is the inter-change point for traffic between Belgium and Germany (via Aachen). This line is currently in the process of being electrified but currently most trains change locomotives at Montzen from electric haulage to either Belgian Class 5500 diesels or German Class 225 diesels for the short hilly journey to Aachen and vice versa. It is a very busy and scenic line with the diesels working hard for most of the journey A line up of Belgian Class 5500s await their next duty on June 21, 2005 The line of Class 5100s that were previously at Noordendocker have now been moved to Montzen and joined by others from the same class.
