Liberec is one of the few major towns in the Czech Republic not to have an electrified railway system. It is in quite a mountainous region and most of the freight trains are double headed and frequently have helpers on the rear going out of the yards. Liberec is the home shed for all ten locos in Class 743 Most of the freight workings in the area in 1998/9 were handled by pairs of Class 750 or Class 753 diesel locos. Here two pairs prepare to leave the shed. 753 278 and 753 310 run past the station
