Track laying on the new high speed passenger line between Paris and Strasbourg started on the "trace" of the LGV on November 02, 2004 from the initial base at St Hilaire-au-Temple in the Champagne region of France. The majority of the trains used to carry ballast are hauled by British Class 56 and Class 58 locomotives hired in from E.W.S. by Fertis, a subsidiary of VFLI. which is itself a subsidiary of SNCF. The track maintenance companies Seco-Rail and TSO also work out of the yard at St Hilaire-au-Temple and each has four Class 58 locomotives painted in their own liveries (Orange and Yellow respectively). The line moves a further 600 metres a day towards Strasbourg, five days per week. The site at St Hilaire-au-Temple is due to start running down in June 2005 and a new base will open up at Pagny-sur-Moselle for continuation of the line towards Strasbourg. In the west a new base will open up at Ocquerre. Two visits have been made to the area in March and April 2005 to record the scene plus a visit to Pagny in April 2006 56078 and 56117 head a train dropping ballast near Brizeaux on April 21, 2005. 58046 is on the rear 56087 at Brizeaux on the same day New page April 30, 2006 : Pagny Updated page April 30, 2005 : Class 58 (2) New pages April 26, 2005 : First Light 56087 56087 (2) 56087 (3) Ballasting Ballasting (2) Class 58 Class 58 (2) St Hilaire (2) Engineering Class 56 New page March 29, 2005 : St Hilaire-au-Temple New pages March 25, 2005 : Fertis Locos Fertis (2) Fertis (3) Fertis (4) Seco-Rail TSO
