With ACTS owning two former EWS Class 58 locos it was an obvious choice to go for action shots on the Port of Rotterdam branchline between Waalhaven yard and Maasvlakte. Here 5811 works on May 22, 2004 As 5811 (ex 58039) was only working on half-power it was assisted by ex-Belgian Class 62 ACTS 6702. The other Class 58 was under repair during the visit. Seen above leaving Waalhaven container terminal for Maasvlakte and then the chase was on covering the 23 mile line.... The branch to Maasvlakte is currently in the process of being electrified and the road system is equally being upgraded - which allowed us to park on the new bit of unopened road to take this shot These shots were taken under police escort ! We had stopped on the hard shoulder of the motorway to take these shots when the police turned up. They were only concerned for our safety and kept guard on us whilst we got our photos. They then cheerily waved us off. What a different place Holland is ! No pallisade fencing anywhere either. More Class 58 shots from Dave Smith
