The photos in the Australia 2002 gallery were taken by Les Pitcher during a 12 day visit to Victoria in January 2002. The only areas visited were those to the west and north of Melbourne, and focus mainly on the lines to Ballarat, Geelong and Seymour. It is not intended as a comprehensive review of what is available in Australia, just a record of what was seen.

For predominantly brilliant weather, classic diesel locos on both passenger and freight trains, semaphore signals, friendly people, ease of access to the railway, fantastic scenery, go to this railway photography heaven - and the passenger trains run on time too!
